  • Evil Geniuses To Enter League of Legends, 2020 NA LCS

Evil Geniuses is happy to announce a second major move that will reinforce our organization as one of the top names in esports; after a five-year hiatus from our last match, we will be returning to the North American LCS to compete in the 2020 Spring Split.

After an extensive diligence process, we’re happy to report that our bid has been accepted by Riot Games for the open LCS spot left by Echo Fox — we’ll be building a team from the ground up in order to take on this new and exciting challenge. We’re also looking forward to spending every week with you at the LCS arena, while revamping how we interact with our fans through fun things to do on-the-ground, and the content that we build around our new roster.

League of Legends has earned its spot among the top tier esports by innovating broadcasting, fan involvement, and the game day experience for the people attending the LCS studio. With its global reach and crossover appeal into other mainstream audiences, returning to LoL Esports was one of the major goals new management wanted to accomplish after our acquisition in late May.

“Part of my experience with EG is knowing that in order to be considered the best, you have to compete where the best are. I could not imagine an EG without a push towards the LCS, and we’re happy to be able to put down roots as a franchises owner.

We’ve had nothing but a good experience working with Riot, and we’ll be expanding our operations to Los Angeles to accommodate the needs of the new roster. We’re looking forward to the new members of the EG cabal that will make all this possible.”

— Nicole LaPointe Jameson, Evil Geniuses CEO

Long-time League fans may recognize the Evil Geniuses name from the earliest days of the LCS: our team, consisting of the powerhouse former CLG.EU roster, placed 3rd and 4th in the first-ever EU LCS splits in 2013. We made our North American debut a year later, ending our final matches of 2014 with a 5-0 run to avoid relegation.

“We’re excited to welcome Evil Geniuses back to the LCS in 2020 and support their return to their roots as part of League of Legends esports. With strong leadership and a compelling vision for their return, we look forward to seeing how Evil Geniuses will shake up the LCS and the rivalries they will drive.”

— Chris Greeley, LCS Commissioner

Since then, League of Legends, EG, and esports as a whole have changed, grown, and matured for the better. Between this announcement and our re-entry into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive earlier today, we’re hopeful for what the future holds, and ready to continue to lift trophies in the top esports titles.

As always, thank you for your continued support as we look toward a particularly Evil future.
